About This Special Issue
In the last few decades, two important biological or medical terms “Autophagy” and “Inflammation” have been implanted in our conceptual foundation of understanding biological processes, pathological mechanisms, and even the arising social phenomenon. Scientifically, numerous studies have revealed the important roles of autophagy and inflammation in many kinds of human conditions, such as cancers, aging, senescence, and infectious diseases.
The COVID-19 outbreak was caused by a coronavirus (CoV) named the SARS-CoV, which has had significant and negative effects on human well-being. Its pathology is propagated both by direct cytotoxic effects of the virus and aberrant activation of the innate immune response. Many new studies found the dysregulation of autophagy and inflammation in COVID-19 patients. However, there are still many gaps in our knowledge of COVID-19 pathogenesis and the mechanisms of autophagy and inflammation as well as the impacts of autophagy on COVID-19 related inflammation, which should be addressed.
In this Special Issue, we invite researchers and clinicians to submit their works, including original clinical research studies, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews, which will provide additional knowledge on understanding the impact of autophagy, inflammation on the pathology of COVID-19.
